I don’t know if it’s all this nonsense on the Twittersphere with that troll Oli London “coming out” as Korean, but a few nights ago I had a dream I flew a sofa over the Thames.

My 30 Day Drawing Challenge is going pretty well. As I kind of suspected, I didn’t get around to drawing from Friday through Sunday, but other than that, I’m 6 days down!

Fashion in Japan 1945-2020

Over the weekend, I also went with a friend to check out the Fashion in Japan 1945-2020 exhibition in Roppongi!

It was super interesting to see the evolution of style in Japan since World War II until now (even just the evolution of Tokyo’s shopping districts, ie. Omotesando in this photo compilation of 70’s Harajuku), so I recommend it to anyone in the area with interest.

The event is spaced out over decades and took us a good 3 hours to go through, since we were pretty thorough about reading through. The 70’s in Japan looked so bomb! I think I was born into this world too late…

Also had a beautiful, long-waited slice of chorizo/jalapeno pizza at Pizza Slice and Soda Fountain on the way out.

It was giant and perfectly crispy on the bottom. ❤

I Just Killed a Mosquito Full of My Own Blood

Happy Monday, friends. Anyone else in Japan think it’s been rainy season since the end of April?

The river was so high this weekend and my ducks were gone. 😦

Anyway, how are you? After a migraine, a 4th of July binge-fest at TGIFriday’s (ribs and buffalo chicken tacos ♥), and a ton of binge-watching the Naked Producer, I’m just happy to be alive and not narrowly trying to escape from the yakuza with my hostess girl friend. _{Or living in a storage room and spoon-feeding a sex doll.}

Last week, a friend from high school tagged me with an Interview with the Vampire meme, which turned into a whole hilarious thing.

In 11th/12th grade we used to write crack anime fanfiction like loons (largely ripping off films like Anchorman and Mommy Dearest), so this really took me back. However, this is, essentially, the exact kind of weird energy I want to put into my creative projects (drawing, blog, writing, video editing, and even during my live streams).

I’m starting the 30 Day Drawing Challenge from today, too! July 5~August 4th, I will draw at least one image a day and take pictures of my progress (and put them here, of course). Hopefully, this will give me a chance to focus on areas of drawing that I’m really weak at and make me a little better at the basics.

Post-Covid Daze

Long time, no see, blog! How have you been these days? _{Did you get a hair cut? You look taller…}

Whether by the title, or through actually knowing me, you might have figured out that I got the infamous Covid-19. Yep, on Tuesday, the 8th of June, as I headed home from work feeling unusually chilly for a 26C evening, the slight cold I felt I was developing was not a cold…

Even now, 22 days later from the onset of my symptoms and 12 days after my release from quarantine, I have no idea where I got it, but I did. None of my co-workers, friends (even people I was around as soon as 3 days before), nor Ryo tested positive, leaving me completely stumped.

My mum did send me this cute card and care package full of peanut butter Ritz crackers and instant grits, though.

Luckily I am completely recovered, aside from a bit of coughing and being a bit tired, so yay! I’m very fortunate to have had an easier experience than many others, so I’m very grateful for that. Now I just wish that the news would stop broadcasting that 64% of coronavirus recoverees will have some sort of heart damage.

I was sooo bored out of my mind at home, that I started doing my make up just for telework. I haven’t put on this much makeup since Halloween.

I took some videos of me talking about my Covid experience, living here in Tokyo, though. Very stand-up, exciting stuff with me sitting in a floor and rambling for ages. Give me a couple of days to edit it a bit, and I’ll post it on the tube of you. I’ve been posting some videos on YouTube here and then, by the way, so go check there if you haven’t. (I’ll stick my last video below.)

I’m toying with the idea of slapping up my weird drawings here. I don’t know why or for who, but it seems like something fun to do.

Today I went to an interesting interview in a Komeda Coffee that made me think a lot about the old days. Like, when I spent two~three evenings hoping no one would call and break the dial up connection as I downloaded all 12 extracted parts of Malice Mizer’s Beast of Blood from an AOL mailing list. And that time that kid in my US History class saw the picture of Kyo (Dir en grey) vortex-sucking cake through his face that I had carefully taped to the front of my folder and remarked, “She really likes cake, huh.”

Don’t play dumb with me. You know the one.

I don’t know about you, but I can taste the 熱心.

I even dug up the old eljay and went to have a looksie at the past, but sadly found I couldn’t remember my password to get in. It has one of those lovely Friends Only locks. Remember those?

Anyway, not much to say other than I was reflecting and feeling nostalgic. I miss fandom. Even though I hate negativity, I feel like these days I’m kind of in a gloom cloud when it comes to things I could get excited about. Kind of like a circuit is broken so the engine can’t get started.

That’s how cars work right? I don’t know. I just made that up. #FakeNews

some thoughts and hi

Hi, again. Long time, no update.

The world is so green and nice these days. I wanna go outside and enjoy it but I work in a stale office!

Anyway, about not updating.

I’ve decided that planning what to write is beyond me. (That only took a few years to figure out, right?)

I get all caught up in what is interesting to read or not, and end up just never writing anything. But honestly I don’t really expect anyone to read this, so I’ve decided to go back to just using at as a journal (RIP LiveJournal).

So, hey again.

I’ve been having a busy week. It’s weird, I had so much to do recently, and our team moved floors in our office to sit in our new boss’s section, so this week has just flown by. I know I went drinking in Ebisu and Roppongi last Friday, but that feels like a month ago.

Speaking of which, I hate Roppongi nightlife.

A friend also joined our company last week, so our team had a welcome party/fried chicken party in Shinokubo last night, which interestingly ended in a midnight visit to an Ikebukuro host club. HAHA!

But Korean fried chicken is boooomb.

I wish I had had the mind to take some pictures, but Shinokubo has really changed so much. The vibe has become so much more like Harajuku now. I really wanna spend more time there and eat that weird rainbow mochi thing. And maybe ravage their Don Quihote (which sells tons of Korean snacks and such).

Looks like my overtime my be increasing though, so hopefully I can find the time.

Another thing I’m really into recently is… lofi hip hop.

 

 

I listen to this stream all the time at work. It’s hard to listen to songs with lyrics sometimes when translating, and especially for long stretches, but this is pretty perfect for my mood and keeping me productive.

Anyway, I’m off to watch some Hoozuki no Reitetsu and farm some Hanami event materials on Toram before bed. So happy tomorrow is Friday….

busy days

since i started working at the game company, i’ve devolved into hoodie life. i love it, tho. i have pretty much lost my desire to look nice, ever.

i’ve been so busy with various things, tho, that i can barely concentrate on any one thing. on one hand, i’m still attempting to have a social life, on the other I take Animal Crossing and Granblue Fantasy quite seriously. on a foot, i really need to study all the time to do my job well, and on the other foot, i have lots of art projects i’m puttering around.

on another hand, i did a thing. i won’t say what because it’s not up til tomorrow, but i’ll just say, i’m very grateful to someone for giving me a very cool opportunity.

It’s fall-ing!

Hello! How are you?

I’m so glad it’s finally Fall here in Tokyo. A couple of weeks ago we had our first cold snap, but after that it went right back to Summer last week. I’m so happy to finally be able to wear sweaters and hoodies and my favorite beanie!

A girl who works at a salon near my neighborhood needed a hair model, so she dyed my hair like this. I think the idea was “coral” but the result to be is kinda like barfing after you eat confetti cake. 😀

I like it tho!

Especially since it toned down a bit (the above was Day 1).  Next I think I’m gonna go for this strange orange tone I had a couple of years ago (and for a hot min in March with this Manic Panic “Mystic Heather”.

Today I went out to grab a Halloween costume. I have one specifically for the GazettE’s Spooky Box LUCY live on the 31st…

A friend and I are gonna go as Prisoner Girls, bc it’s cheap and the band is gonna be villains anyway. ❤️

Randomly, not knowing Uruha was gonna be a Mad Sister, my roommate and I decided to dress as zombie nuns, for real Halloween festivities, a while ago and ordered these outfits on AliExpress….

But the dress, as is obvious, it’s awful. I was worried it would be too small, but it’s huge, and the waist is waaaay too low. So I’m throwing it away in favor of one I bought today.

Why is it that four day work weeks seem so much longer than normal ones? I’ve been binging on productivity podcasts and youtube channels, and my inspiration is soaring.

Today I felt like scribbling around on my tablet again for the first time in a long time.

New Job

Long time no update. I think I made a couple of posts on my tumblr since my last post here, but… Yea. Here we are again.

I’ve been meaning to post since before August since… I got a new job!

No more school for this guy. FOUR YEARS. Four years I worked as an ALT. Honestly, when I think about it now, I see why my psyche is the shit heap it is now.

But yes, I got a new job doing translation for a company and started on the 1st of August. The company I’m working for now is pretty big and laid back, so it’s nice to be able to roll in and just listen to my music on the computer all day. It’s so bizarre not to have to be a dancing monkey for people for once.

Everything feels a lot better now. Yea, I sometimes have dreams I’ve been possessed by a demon, but DON’T WE ALL?

I guess the best part of moving on is that I feel like, even though this isn’t my dream (the job, not the demon thing), I’m a little closer to doing what I want to do. I have a lot of opportunities to learn and time to work on my goals.

I guess technically I had time at my last job, but I was so busy thinking of ways to kill myself that it was hard to be motivated enough…

I worked myself up all year that everything would be fine if I could just make it to Summer and the beach, but now I can’t even believe it’s time to buy Halloween costumes. (I’m gonna be a nun, btw. Fitting, right? HA!)

I know this post isn’t much but raves. Hell, there are points of contingency even with my new job, but one thing I’ve really felt lacking recently was blogging. I need to get my mind together, and putting things on paper/blog really helps me with that. And hopefully protects my poor roommate from having to listen to all my ramblings.

So in the end, this was a post for the sake of posts.

How’s it going? I’m in a pretty good mood today! Today was supposed to be my back-to-work day, so I got up and headed to school as usual only to be told to go home and come back Wednesday. Actually I thought things were taking a downturn when I got to the door and realised I had forgotten my key, but I managed to climb through a window (I wonder if any of my neighbours saw) and things were fine, lol.

Finally did some hanami on Saturday! I haven’t done a proper hanami in a couple of years, since last year I wasn’t feelin’ so hot and had to go home after about half an hour.

 

Yoyogi-koen. Soooo many people. It’s crazy. When you’re walking through the trees you can just hear the decibels rising with every step. We had a lot of fun drinking in the trees, though.

One thing, however, I really wanted to do while I was in the area is take some pictures of my favorite shops. I have a plan to try drawing and watercoloring these later.

I’ll put them here.

I almost never go to actual Takeshita-doori because of the crowds. The last time I tried going there was a Wednesday, so I thought it would be OK, but no. Takeshita-doori is perpetually unmanageable now. And all my favorite shops have packed up and left.

Urahara is the best, though. Maybe one of my happy places.
