It’s fall-ing!

IMG_5970

Hello! How are you?

I’m so glad it’s finally Fall here in Tokyo. A couple of weeks ago we had our first cold snap, but after that it went right back to Summer last week. I’m so happy to finally be able to wear sweaters and hoodies and my favorite beanie!

IMG_5971

That beanie.

A girl who works at a salon near my neighborhood needed a hair model, so she dyed my hair like this. I think the idea was “coral” but the result to be is kinda like barfing after you eat confetti cake. 😀

I like it tho!

IMG_5972.JPG

Especially since it toned down a bit (the above was Day 1).  Next I think I’m gonna go for this strange orange tone I had a couple of years ago (and for a hot min in March with this Manic Panic “Mystic Heather”.

IMG_3600

March. (Up)

Today I went out to grab a Halloween costume. I have one specifically for the GazettE’s Spooky Box LUCY live on the 31st…

IMG_5977

A friend and I are gonna go as Prisoner Girls, bc it’s cheap and the band is gonna be villains anyway. ❤️

IMG_5974

Randomly, not knowing Uruha was gonna be a Mad Sister, my roommate and I decided to dress as zombie nuns, for real Halloween festivities, a while ago and ordered these outfits on AliExpress….

IMG_5976

But the dress, as is obvious, it’s awful. I was worried it would be too small, but it’s huge, and the waist is waaaay too low. So I’m throwing it away in favor of one I bought today.

Its a secret, but here’s a instagram story of Halloween shopping with my roommate. Hehe!

New Job

IMG_5689

Long time no update. I think I made a couple of posts on my tumblr since my last post here, but… Yea. Here we are again.

I’ve been meaning to post since before August since… I got a new job!

No more school for this guy. FOUR YEARS. Four years I worked as an ALT. Honestly, when I think about it now, I see why my psyche is the shit heap it is now.

But yes, I got a new job doing translation for a company and started on the 1st of August. The company I’m working for now is pretty big and laid back, so it’s nice to be able to roll in and just listen to my music on the computer all day. It’s so bizarre not to have to be a dancing monkey for people for once.

Everything feels a lot better now. Yea, I sometimes have dreams I’ve been possessed by a demon, but DON’T WE ALL?

I guess the best part of moving on is that I feel like, even though this isn’t my dream (the job, not the demon thing), I’m a little closer to doing what I want to do. I have a lot of opportunities to learn and time to work on my goals.

I guess technically I had time at my last job, but I was so busy thinking of ways to kill myself that it was hard to be motivated enough…

I worked myself up all year that everything would be fine if I could just make it to Summer and the beach, but now I can’t even believe it’s time to buy Halloween costumes. (I’m gonna be a nun, btw. Fitting, right? HA!)

I know this post isn’t much but raves. Hell, there are points of contingency even with my new job, but one thing I’ve really felt lacking recently was blogging. I need to get my mind together, and putting things on paper/blog really helps me with that. And hopefully protects my poor roommate from having to listen to all my ramblings.

So in the end, this was a post for the sake of posts.

And that’s Mexican food for the sake of Mexican food.

And here’s drawing for the sake of drawing.

Cheers.

hanami + urahara

gooddaysir1

How’s it going? I’m in a pretty good mood today! Today was supposed to be my back-to-work day, so I got up and headed to school as usual only to be told to go home and come back Wednesday. Actually I thought things were taking a downturn when I got to the door and realised I had forgotten my key, but I managed to climb through a window (I wonder if any of my neighbours saw) and things were fine, lol.

Finally did some hanami on Saturday! I haven’t done a proper hanami in a couple of years, since last year I wasn’t feelin’ so hot and had to go home after about half an hour.

 IMG_3845

Yoyogi-koen. Soooo many people. It’s crazy. When you’re walking through the trees you can just hear the decibels rising with every step. We had a lot of fun drinking in the trees, though.

One thing, however, I really wanted to do while I was in the area is take some pictures of my favorite shops. I have a plan to try drawing and watercoloring these later.

I’ll put them here.

I’ve never been in here, either, but I have an ancient picture of me in high school standing next to their sign just because of the name.

Another place I’ve never been, but I love these stairs.

I almost never go to actual Takeshita-doori because of the crowds. The last time I tried going there was a Wednesday, so I thought it would be OK, but no. Takeshita-doori is perpetually unmanageable now. And all my favorite shops have packed up and left. :/

Urahara is the best, though. Maybe one of my happy places.

Also popped in for a delicious burrito bowl at Guzman y Gomez.

Anyway, it was a good day. I’ll let you know how the paintings go.

Off to the night job now. Later. 🙂

the glories of tape

009o

I was kind of sad to notice this morning one of my favorite creative paper blogs has stopped updating. It’s a blog by a woman in Australia, Jenna Templeton, who does all sorts of creative projects with paper and washi tape. It was actually from her blog ages ago that I first found about about the wonders of washi tape. It doesn’t seem to be updated anymore, but for lots of cool ideas and creative inspiration, check out→ My Life As A Magazine.

And since I really love looking at people’s collections of things, I’m going to show you my washi tape collection! Hold on to your hats, people.

tap6

The coolest ones of the bunch are probably these.

tap7

Among them, some are kinda special. For example, these are from Paul & Joe. I actually got them from a monthly gift box service I was using last year, but they have cute little cats and fishes on them. ♡

001

And these are actually goods from an Angelo live. There’s even one with the 切人♦︎一家 logo on it, lol. I think Angelo is probably the visual kei band with the most creative goods these days. XD

002

These Sailor Moon tapes were given to me by a really sweet teacher at one of the schools I work at.

0097

And this Tokyo skyline tape is one of the coolest I’ve ever seen. I use it on my bullet notebook that I scribble in every day.

It’s not as much as some people have, but it’s already spilling out of the storage space I’ve allotted it. I’ve actually had to forbid myself from purchasing anymore, as I have a tendency to hoard project materials like this.

But they’re really cool to use in scrap books and such, like this.

tap5

That’s my Tokyo 2013-2014 cut-paste story.

Do you have any cool washi tapes too?

STANDING LIVE TOUR 16 GRAND FINALE DOGMA -ANOTHER FATE- @ 幕張メッセ

Yesterday was the GazettE’s GRAND FINALE free live at Makuhari Messe. It was the first time I’ve seen the GazettE since『LIVE TOUR 15-16 DOGMATIC FINAL「漆黒」』on February 28th (my b-day, lol). So over half a year for me.

image5

I took the day off and slept in and took my time getting ready since there was no way I could have gotten there in time to get goods and do cloak from my work assignment. But the night before they sent out the message about goods numbers from 9AM so I quickly said fuck it to goods and decided to get there just in time to go in. :/

Even though I really wanted that phone case… .___.

image1-1

My hella messy make up space ^. I went full fake eyelashes for the first time since Zepp Nagoya where one was sticking to my cheek like a crazy in the pit only halfway through. Quickly regretted it too since my hair kept getting stuck in them. :/

image2-1

Final look ^. I can’t remember what tour this shirt is from, and it was bothering me all day yesterday. (Was it DIPLOSOMIA??)

I used the lulzy Kishidan hip pouch with a chain from an old iPhone case for a bag so I could throw the chain inside and just wear the pouch like normal. No cloak/locker for me! 8D

I don’t dress up for standing lives. Haha

image3-1

Pre-live beer on the way to the station! (Cheers, Abe.)

image4-1

The tickets went through X-Z blocks and somehow I got lucky and ended up getting an X number, so I lingered in front of that bar until some friends I know came in and joined me. It was weird too, because it never got crowded for some reason. I’m so used to it being packed I hardly remembered how to furi and stuff with space. It was awesome though for the encore when we we broke it down and jumped into each other. SO HISASHIBURI.

Anyway, set list:

NIHIL
DOGMA
RAGE
DAWN
GABRIEL ON THE GALLOWS
VENOMOUS SPIDER’S WEB
CLEVER MONKEY
BIZARRE
DEUX
OMINOUS
THE SUICIDE CIRCUS

LUCY

UGLY
BLEMISH
UNDYING

[EN]

COCKROACH
TOMORROW NEVER DIES

[WEN]

Hilariously called Akai, too. Like “I wanna hear some old shit now, like Akai.” AND LO AND BEHOLD. Lol

Flipped my shit over Gabriel, too, just because I love that song. And was intrigued by how much the furi for COCKROACH has changed over the years. (All this clapping nowadays.)

The encore MC was much longer than usual, too. Ruki rambled a while about it being live number 69 and tour stuff until some girls up front called him on it and he just paused and sighed like, “…Hai.” ANYWAYS as I was saying…

They’re so old now, lol.

Lots of cute things in the MC, and speculating about what costume Reita was going to do for the Spooky Box live. It was adorable. ♡

image6

And alas we got the announcement, next year’s 15th Anniversary live! And the badass old school theme. So when we all headed out of the live the hall was all done up old style. Psyched, but it’s freaking March. Ages off.

I miss them. D:

image7

I haven’t written a live entry in ages, so I went back and revelled in the old ones from my blogspot and the signing I wrote on tumblr, here:

GROAD OF DIPLOSOMIA 01 @ OLIX

I miss livejournal. :/

Well I hope that was artsy enough for you. I’ve been wanting to write again for a while, but I couldn’t really think of anything to say. Strangely enough my best ideas usually come from my self-monologue in the middle of the busiest moments of my day. I’ll be in the middle of handing out worksheets to a sea of angsty second graders and suddenly–

WHY IS PURPLE SO BEAUTIFUL BUT EGGPLANT SO NASTY?

So you can see how the world is really losing out on my brilliant thoughts.

But TGIF everyone. I’m off to meet my roommate at the pub!

asakusa in december

IMG_1405

Hey there. I can’t believe it’s already the Ides of March. /lame

I’ve been so busy these days I completely lost track of time. More than past time for an update.

It’s been a few months since then, but before leaving for my trip home to the US in December last year, I spent an afternoon in Asakusa to shop for some small trinkets and gifts to take home to my family over the holidays.

I love Asakusa. Everytime I go there I get this great sense of nostalgia for my first 4 months in Japan back in 2006 when I was living with a host family there. The family and I had a rough relationship, but as a newbie to the country, this town and my time with them strongly shaped the Japan I love.

As a tourist spot though, there’s not much reason for me to go there these days, so I hardly do. This recent visit was the first time in years for me to visit, actually. But the Nakamise-dori and Sensouji are still the beautiful places I remember them to be from back in the day.

Anyway, I took some pictures wondering about and thought I would like to post them here.

Kaminarimon is always covered by people. And this time, so many selfie-sticks. (I finally have one now, get ready for some obnoxiously awesome photos, haha.)

Once through here you can see the temple, but it was swarming with people so I just went to buy a fortune for my dad’s work and wonder around the gardens.

That dango was pretty much the most delicious I’ve ever had.

It was still warm and just melted in my mouth. D:

After my snack I headed over to Tokyo Sky Tree to meet up with Emily. We decided to spontaneously grab dinner and go up the Sky Tree for the first time ever.

The people pushed us into the fast line just for being foreign, which was weird but kind of cool, I guess. There was also a Star Wars event going on on the highest deck, so we decided to go all the way up.

Kylo Ren of course.

Probably the coolest part of the Sky Tree display was the huge projection mapping performance that happened outside of Solamachi.

After that we actually headed to Akabane to a strange izakaya where the waiter randomly gave me his business card. Uh, thanks? 😀 Anyway, it was a pretty awesome day. A good reminder that I need to get out of my routine every now and then and do something new.

Well, I’m off to prepare some things for work tomorrow. Catch you later.

Sweet dreams and good mornings!
